A loan of $1,150 helped to buy land, farming tools, and sacks of organic fertilizer.

Emiliana's story

43-year-old Doña Emiliana is an unselfish mother who lives a married life with Segundino, who in turn is the father of their five children. Together they carry out the role of a family very united in support and mutual work; they share their experiences in a house made of adobe of which she is the owner. They carry out agricultural activities consisting of cocoa and coffee production, prioritizing the quantity of land for the latter to be more profitable. They have been working in this field for 16 years on land that Segundino acquired and that has suited her for working and earning what is enough to educate their children. She relies on the direct help of laborers that she hires, and on occasions she has the help of her children when they are in the holiday season. One of the things that pleases her is to watch the heaping sacks of coffee when they are on the verge of being carried to the city to be sold; when she remembers all of the work she has done and that she is now well-paid.

Like in all commercial activity, she is required to invest in supplies like coffee plants and organic fertilizer, so she desires to have a loan. Therefore, it would be her seventh loan, and she promises to be on time with her repayments starting right now. She also says that it pleases her very much to work with the partners in her communal bank because she considers them to be a very close-knit group whose board of directors know how to administer the funds to the benefit of everyone. With the 4,00 nuevos soles she will supplement the capital that will be used to purchase land, in addition to tools and sacks of organic fertilizer.
