Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $625 helped a member to buy potash, insecticide, and to pay plowing expenses.

Oeut's Group's story

Oeut, with the rest of her family consisting of ten children, lives in Ek Phnom district of Battambang Province. Some of her children are still in school and some are helping the family's business as well as doing household chores.

To feed her ten kids with decent daily food, she and her husband grow rice, beans, and corn; they also raise cows for extra income. Over several years in this business, she has been able to save only 4,300 KHR per day.

In the group of two, Oeut is the leader. She and her co-borrower have been with VisionFund (Kiva's partner) for at least three past loan cycles. She has managed her business at a good pace by using the loans and it has returned a decent income to support her big family. Now, she and her fellow group member are seeking 1,200,000 KHR each.

Oeut is going to use her portion to buy potash, insecticide, and to pay plowing fees. With part of her loan, she is also going to buy a fishing net in order to catch fish for resale for extra income. She hopes that she can earn more income from her current business so that she can upgrade her living conditions and keep her children in school.

In this group: Oeut, Seab
