A loan of $1,075 helped to buy spare parts for cars.

Betty Cesilia's story

The Salud y Vida [Life and Health] Communal Bank meets every fifteen days in the city of Charapoto, which is known for its traditional culture and for being just a few minutes away from San Jacinto and San Clemente, the best beaches in the province.

Here lives Betty, who is thirty-one and lives with her partner with whom she has three children, ten-, six-, and three-years-old. The two older children are in school. Betty's partner works in a rice mill.

In order to make money and pay for her children's schooling, Betty has her own business in her in-laws' house, selling CDs and everything from spare parts for cars, to tires, to electronics spare parts. She's had the business for three years, and works by herself every day from 8AM until 6PM.

Betty plans to use her loan to buy car spare parts. She's been with the communal bank for more than five years and she likes it because the loan process is quick and doesn't have too many requirements.

Her dream is to have her own house because now she lives in her in-laws' house.
