A loan of $325 helped to purchase coffee plants and clear his land.

Alejandro's story

Since he was a little boy Alejandro used to help his parents and brothers to harvest coffee on the plantation. He is now 40-years-old and he is married to Ofelia. Together with his wife and children they work in the production of coffee. When there is not much work to do for his crops, Alejandro and his wife work to raise sheep, which is their livelihood while they wait for the coffee harvest. In this manner they are able to get ahead.

During the last harvest Alejandro had a harvest of 3 tons of coffee. He needs financing to renew his plants because they are old and do not produce enough coffee. Additionally, he has enough space to plant more crops without affecting the quality of the coffee. This entire process will take Alejandro about 3 years. For this he needs a loan to purchase new plants and he will need to clear the land to produce a larger harvest and larger financial gain.

Alejandro and his wife work very hard because their biggest dream is that their children have the opportunity to study. Since the community where they live is very small, there are very few job opportunities and it is necessary to leave to be better prepared.
