A loan of $3,600 helped a member to improve the salon and to buy a facial steamer and some raw materials.

Dlxwaz's Group's story

Dlxwaz is a 37-year-old Iraqi woman. She is married and a mother of two children. She is a hairdresser and has her own beauty salon for hair and make-up. She has seven years experience with the business and has built a nice clientele. Dlxwaz knows the importance of keeping her customers satisfied as well as the importance of offering new, modern services to stay competitive in the city. As such, she is constantly making improvements. In the past, she took a loan from Relief International - Microfinance Iraq to buy an air conditioning unit and to replace the tables in the salon. Having successfully repaid the previous loan, she now is seeking a new loan to make further improvements to the salon and to buy a facial steamer and some raw materials. Relief International - Microfinance Iraq offers "Group loans" for clients unable to provide a guarantor - thereby unable to apply for a loan as an individual. As a group, the members collectively guarantee the loan. Groups consist of 3 to 5 clients and each client is evaluated on his or her repayment capacity. All group members receive the same loan amount as the individual with the lowest repayment capacity in the group. Based on the political and social challenges of lending in Iraq, personally identifiable information about this borrower has been altered for their protection. RI-Iraq appreciates Kiva lenders' consideration of these challenges and encourages lenders to continue their support for Iraqi borrowers.
