Asha is a forty-five year old farmer in Nkubu county in Kenya. She lives with her husband and three children, who have all cleared schooling. She has been in farming for the past seven years, producing milk, fruits and vegetables which she sells to the people around her local area.
She is requesting a 60,000 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a chuff cutter that will help her easily provide more feed for her dairy cows. This will help them produce more milk and thus more income for her. That will help her improve her standard of living. She aspires to have built residential houses in the next five years. Lack of a readily available market for her products is her major challenge.
Asha says Juhudi Kilimo is the best micro finance institution for small scale farmers.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
