A loan of $350 helped a member to buy other commodities to stock in her store such as sugar and cooking oil.

Juliet's Group's story

Juliet's group is comprised of hard working women. Juliet is 17 years old and lives in the town of Lugazi in the Mukono region of Uganda. For the past two years, Juliet has been working hard to manage her retail store where she sells soap, sugar and cooking oil.

To help expand her business, Juliet has requested a loan of 250,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy other commodities to stock in her store such as sugar and cooking oil and will help Juliet to generate greater profits and to shore up the family. Juliet hopes that in the future, she hopes the business gets bigger.

Juliet is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
