Ruth Zenaida, one of the members, is 19 years old and single. She runs a restaurant where she serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. She also studies to be a baker and makes pies and cakes. Her restaurant has been in business for a year and she hopes to be able to get ahead through this activity. Her goal is to expand her business. She is requesting a loan to buy cooking ingredients such as meat, chicken and vegetables, wholesale.
The other members are involved in carpentry, restaurant, welding workshop and bakery activities.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
