A loan of $325 helped to buy more charcoal to increase her sales.

Jartu's story

Jartu, a widowed mother of six children between the ages of 19 and 31, lives in Paynesville South. Her children live independently; four are in college, and the other two are involved in business.

Having received start-up capital from her children, Jartu now owns a warehouse where she has been selling charcoal for the past five years. One of her business challenges is the cost of transporting the product from the brush to Monrovia. With her profits she buys more coal and repays her loans. Jatu is now requesting her third loan from BRAC Liberia to buy more charcoal to increase her sales. She hopes to become a big businesswoman in the future.
