A loan of $800 helped to rent a piece of land, pay for labour, buy seedlings and fertilizer.

Beltha's story

She is married and has five children, and they all live in a five bedroom apartment in Mankon, Bamenda Mezam Division of the North West Region of Cameroon. She has faced many challenges in life, among which are sickness of family members, the death of her mother and ill health of her father, and the biggest challenge was when her daughter underwent an operation in the hospital. She joined GHAPE in the year 1999, and has taken and repaid loans eight times. She promises that with this new loan, she will rent a piece of farm land, pay laborers, and buy seedlings and fertilizers for the farm land. She is positive this business will succeed because of longevity, and also experience in the field. With this activity, the community will benefit from a regular supply of foods, available at all times, at moderate prices. Also, she will sell seedlings to the community. With the profit from the loan, she will educate her children, provide medication for her family, and cater to other basic needs of life. She says she prefers GHAPE loans because of low interest rates, training on management before loan disbursement, and convenient repayment intervals.
