Hasifa

Uganda
Masaka, Uganda / Farming

A loan of $325 helped to purchase a mobile phone, solar charging set and weighing scale so that she may provide vital farming information to her community.

Hasifa's story

Hasifa is 32 years old. She is a widow and has two children. She earns her income through farming. She grows many crops, including maize, beans, coffee, cassava, bananas, groundnuts, sweet potatoes, cabbage, onions, eggplant, avocado, mangoes, oranges and pumpkins. She keeps goats and sheep. She also has a small craft shop.

Hasifa looks forward to becoming a community knowledge worker (CKW). As a CKW, she will use the materials in her business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar charging set and weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of her village, helping them to improve their crop yields and to increase their incomes.

With the additional money that she will earn as a CKW, Hasifa will invest in her craft shop. She dreams of being the best craft maker in her area.
