A loan of $325 helped to purchase a mobile phone, solar charging set and weighing scale so that he may provide vital farming information to his community.

Alfred's story

Alfred is 36 years old. He is married and has three children. He and his wife earn their income through the sale of crops and livestock. They grow maize, beans, coffee, cassava and bananas. They also keep goats, chickens and pigs.

Alfred looks forward to becoming a community knowledge worker (CKW). As a CKW, he will use the materials in his business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar charging set and weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of his village, helping them to improve their crop yields and to increase their incomes. He is excited about this opportunity to help his community.

In addition to using his solar charging set to charge his CKW mobile phone, Alfred will also earn money by allowing others in his community to charge their phones using the set. Additionally, he will use it to light his home.

Alfred dreams of owning a 20-acre coffee plantation.
