Kelita's story

Kelita is a very honest and hardworking 56-year-old woman. She is married and has two children who are grown up and independent. Kelita makes a living primarily in the cultivation of ornamental plants. She has a garden area at her home where she grows a wide variety of plants used for decorations at homes and botanical gardens. She grows roses, daises, gardenias and other flowers, which she sells in small pots when they bloom and reach an adequate vegetation period for the climate. She has had this business for more than five years and enjoys carrying out her work. She also works as a seamstress out of her home, since she has a sewing machine. She also teaches some classes. What she most likes about her work with plants is seeing the variety of flowers in bloom and the bright colors they have. She also enjoys making articles of clothing as a seamstress, but at the moment she can't do that job since her sewing machine doesn't work. She hopes to continue growing her plants, which will be even more vigorous. This will be her eighth loan with Kiva partner MFP, and she has always been a very good member of her community bank, where she is much-loved for being very responsible and supportive. She is grateful to those who have made this loan possible so she can continue growing her business. She is convinced that she will keep being responsible and make her payments on time, as she has done with all her previous loans. With the amount she is requesting, she plans to purchase fertilizers, seeds and plants to expand her garden area, as well as purchase fabric and thread so she can restart her sewing business.
