A loan of $1,275 helped to buy chemical and natural fertilizers and to pay day workers to clear the farm and the crops.

María's story

María, age 55, is in a common-law marriage, and she has six children. She lives with her mother-in-law, her husband, and her children in a rural community in the Nueva Frontera municipality in the Santa Barbara department. María has always worked in agriculture. For 15 years she has been producing coffee, corn, and beans that she sells. She has currently requesting a loan for 25,000 lempiras to buy chemical and natural fertilizers and to pay day workers to clear the farm and the crops. She feels that the loan will help her provide adequate management in order to get greater yield from her crops. Her goal is to manage to produce 11 ‘manzanas’ [a land measurement] of coffee crops.
