A loan of $1,075 helped to buy perfumes, lotions, cosmetics and clothing.

Blanca Filerma's story

The village bank Mujeres Organizadas meets every 15 days in the canton of Rocafuerte, a place known throughout the country for delicious locally-made sweets.

Blanca, 63, lives here. She is married and has 5 children who are all grown, though the youngest daughter still lives with her. Her husband is a farmer.

Blanca is a housewife who decided to sell clothing and Avon and Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and ladies' accessories) from catalogs in order to make her own money. She sells door to door, working three days a week. She sells on credit and collects payment weekly. Her most-sold product are the perfumes which are very good quality and much appreciated by her customers. She has been doing this for over 4 years and it's going very well.

This loan is to buy perfumes, lotions, cosmetics and clothing. She is a founding member of the bank and likes it because the interest rates are lower than in other lending institutions. Her dream is to continue moving forward with her business.
