A loan of $1,475 helped to buy essential grocery products.

Mercedes Esperanza's story

The members of the communal bank "Mujeres Organizadas" (Organized Women) meet every fifteen days in the canton of Rocafuerte. This place is known for its delicious sweets that the locals prepare and that are well-known throughout the country.

Mercedes lives in this place. She is 62 years old. Several years ago her life companion died and she was left a widow but from this relationship they had three children who are now adults. One of her children still lives with her.

Mercedes is a fighter who knew how to get ahead with her effort, hard work and more after the death of her husband. She has a small store in her home in which she works every day from 6:00 in the morning until 7:00 in the evening. Aside from food products she also sells various household goods and stationary products. At present she also sells refill minutes for cell phones with which she earns something extra. She has had her store for more than 15 years which has given her many benefits and moreover it is where she likes to be to learn and find out what’s happening around her neighborhood.

She is going to invest this loan in the purchase of more essential grocery products to stock her store. She has been in the communal bank for more than four years and she likes it for the help that she receives with the loans.

Her dreams are to continue working and to be in good health.
