A loan of $750 helped to buy provisions to supply her home based grocery store.

María Aurentina's story

In the canton of Rocafuerte the members of the communal bank Mujeres Organizadas meet twice a month. This place is known for its delicious sweets that the local people prepare and they are known throughout the country.

María lives here. She is 65 years old, married and has eight children from this relationship, all adults but two of them still live with her. Her husband is a farmer.

María works in commerce in order to help pay the household expenses. She has a little store in her home, selling all types of food, garden produce, vegetables and fruits, plus some bazaar and stationery items. She works every day from 6:00AM until 8:00PM and sometimes later. Her children help with the work when they can. She has had the business more than eight years and she is very happy there and feels useful in this activity that gives her good earnings without leaving her home.

This loan will be used to buy provisions to supply her store. She has been with the communal bank since it began more than seven years ago and she likes it because with the loans she has been able to improve her business and her economic situation.

Her goals are to continue getting ahead in her business and expanding her store.
