Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $100 helped to buy more maize for resale.

Lydia's story

Lydia is 17 years old and lives in the town of Lugazi, in the Mukono region of Uganda. For the past 2 years, Lydia has been working hard to manage her business, which sells maize flour.

To help expand her business, Lydia has requested a loan of 250,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more maize flour for resale, helping Lydia to generate greater profits and care for her family. Lydia hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her capital.

Lydia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
