Leang is 51 years old and lives in Kompong Cham province in the Ponhea Krek district of Cambodia, She is married and the mother of six children, three of whom are still dependent on her. To offer a decent life to her family, Leang has been growing rice and cassava for more than 20 years. She has also earned extra money on the side by working at various jobs. She leads a two-person loan group whose members are applying for their fourth loans from VisionFund (Kiva's partner). Each member of this group is requesting a loan for 1,000,000 KHR. Leang will use her portion of this loan to hire people to work on her farm and pay for transportation costs. Her goal for the future is to buy more farmland so that she can increase her productivity as well as profits.

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
