A loan of $1,100 helped to buy sandals from women's footwear lines, as well as handbags.

Consuelo's story

Consuelo is 49 years old. She specializes in the sale of women's footwear. She has five years of experience in this business, which she decided to start because she has a friend in Bucaramanga, another city in Colombia, who owns a footwear factory. She uses this relationship to her advantage to generate profits. Consuelo receives the footwear from Bucaramanga and sells the shoes to neighbors, friends, and customers who are referred to her by these clients.

Consuelo will use her first loan from Kiva to buy sandals from women's footwear lines, as well as to buy handbags. She hopes that this investment will help her to increase the volume of her sales and to decrease her costs, since she will be able to buy the merchandise wholesale and in cash.

One day, Consuelo would like to make her own shoes to sell wholesale, and to continue to benefit her family. She has a 26-year-old son and a husband. Currently, she is in the process of improving her home, and she is waiting for a better income. She hopes to continue to earn money with this loan, and eventually to finish the expansion of her house.
