A loan of $625 helped to buy merchandise for her shop, miscellaneous products like perfumes, creams, and cosmetics.

Cristina's story

Cristina is 47 years old and lives with her two children, who are 14 and 21 years of age, in Puerto Colombia, a town on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. She has an internet cafe equipped with two computers and a photocopier/printer. She also sells cell phone minutes, SIM cards, plans, and other cell phone equipment. She also sells merchandise out of specialized guides or catalogs, so she has a glass cabinet which can be bought on special from various companies.

Two years ago, she was affected by a flood in her home and lost some computers, merchandise, and various pieces of furniture and household appliances. Faced with the great disaster, she continued working, and now things are going very well in her business. Currently, she is applying for a micro-loan, with which she will buy merchandise for her store, miscellaneous products like perfumes, creams, and cosmetics. Cristina wants to take advantage of the buying season at the end of the year, when many customers buy items out of catalogs as Christmas gifts, which will probably make her investment quite successful. Her goal for her business is to expand, and her personal goal is to buy her own house.
