A loan of $175 helped to buy more items to sell, such as sugar.

Robinah's story

Robinah is 17 years old and lives in the town of Mukono in the Mukono region of Uganda. For the past year, she has been working hard to manage her retail shop, where she sells sugar, salt and oil. To help expand her business, she is requesting a loan for 400,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. She will use the loan to buy more products to sell, including sugar. This will help Robinah generate greater profits and expand her store. She hopes to own a big business in the future. Robinah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
