Angela Catalina's story

The Community Bank La Y meets every 15 days at San Jacinto beach in Sucre Canton. The area is known for it's beautiful beaches, which are visited by domestic and foreign tourists alike. It has many beautiful spots and a delicious variety of dishes that are typical to the region.

This is where Angela lives. She is 30 years old, in a relationship and has four children ages15, 13, 10 and 4 years old The oldest two are in high school and the youngest two are in primary school. Her husband is a fisherman.

Angela will use the loan to help her husband because he needs certain materials to be successful at fishing. He needs nets, rope, fuel and food for the days that he is out to sea. Her husband and two other men go out in a boat and return 2 or 3 days later depending on what they have caught. They rest for 1 or 2 days and then go back to sea. Angela's husband has been working as a fisherman for 8 years.

Angela will use the loan to buy rope, nets and other fishing materials. This is her first experience with the community bank and she likes it because she was able to receive the loan quickly without a lot of requirements.

Her dream is for her husband to be successful.
