A loan of $725 helped to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and clothes.

Norma Yanina's story

Communal bank “La Negrita” meets every fortnight in the Montecristi canton, which is famous for its rich pre-colonial culture and its nationwide and worldwide recognized crafts. This is where the famous toquilla straw hats [panama hats] are made. Mrs. Norma lives here, she is 20 and lives in a common-law marriage out of which she has three children that are 4, 3 and 2 years old, respectively. Her partner is a teacher. She is a housewife that strives to be more independent economically, so she can feel that she is useful and can help her partner with the expenses. She sells clothes by catalogue and Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and accessories for women). She sells door-to-door, on credit and she collects weekly. She has been doing this for six years now, and she does very well. With this loan she will buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and clothes. This is her second cycle with the communal bank, something she likes because it is of great help. Her dream is to give her children the best.
