Las Estrellitas (Flat) Group's story

“Las Estrellitas” (flat) group is nine women each with her own economic activity aimed at earning income of her own to provide their families with better quality of life. They are: Maricela who sells crafts, Isabel who sells tacos, María who sells fast-food snacks, Zuleyma who sells lingerie, Maribel who sells fast-food snacks, Verónica who sells fast-food snacks, Reyna who sells food and Bernardita who sells bread. They are from a community called Las Limas whose residents work growing sugarcane and collecting sap from rubber trees.

Maricela relates that she works making knitted crafts like blouses, shoes, mats, dresses, shawls and baby clothes and embroidered napkins. She does her work on order and since she’s been doing it for several years she doesn’t have to leave her house to sell because customers come to her to place their orders. She said that she learned to make crafts because her parents were unable to pay for more schooling for her so she learned an occupation that would help her get ahead in the future.

She will use the loan to buy thread, knitting needles, needles, fabric, soles and ribbons to continue making her crafts. She wants to use her profits to buy more materials to continue in her activity and gradually make home improvements.

The group sends a message of appreciation to people who will help them make their loan possible.
