A loan of $325 helped to pay workers to harvest his coffee.

Alejandro's story

Alejandro works as a security guard at a coffee processing plant, and in his free time he also produces coffee. His wife, Daysi, helps him with this work, although she also has to take care of the home as they have 2 small children. The coffee that Alejandro produces is grown using conventional (rather than organic) methods, and he delivers all of his production to the La Union Regional de Huatusco coffee cooperative so that it can be processed and exported.

For the next harvest, Alejandro needs a loan to pay the workers who will harvest his coffee. At the end of the harvest, he will pay off the loan with the profits he obtains. He would like to be able to plant more coffee so that within few years he could increase his production and also his income.

The main goal of Alejandro and his wife is to be able to provide their children with the opportunity to study for a university degree, so that in the future they will have better job opportunities.
