Darwin Adonis

Nicaragua
Leon, Nicaragua / Farming

A loan of $1,250 helped to buy supplies for growing melons and to install an irrigation system.

Darwin Adonis's story

Darwin is 32 years old, married, and has two children (ages 10 and 11). He is a farmer by trade and is originally from the region of El Tanque, which is outside of León. Darwin acquired experience while working for other melon producers, but he later decided to start his own business. The first crops he produced were corn, pumpkins, and squash. His current crops include vegetables and fruits, but sometimes he plants chile peppers. He would like to export everything he produces to foreign markets since they offer a better price for his products.

With the idea of diversifying his crops, Darwin will use the loan that he is requesting to plant melons and install an irrigation system that he needs to keep his crops in optimal condition and obtain production that is of good quality. Another one of his projects is to sell tabasco chiles so that he can gradually grow in a line of business that has yet to be exploited in León.
