Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,175 helped to buy more clothes and shoes to increase his capital.

Aems's story

Aems is 41 years old and lives in the town of Arua Hill in the Arua region of Uganda. He is married and has six children with two of them currently in school. For the past five years, Aems has been working hard to manage his clothes shop, where he sells clothes and shoes.

To help expand his business, Aems has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more clothes and shoes that will increase his capital, and help Aems generate greater profits and expand his business. Aems hopes that in the future he will be able to be self-employed.

Aems is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Aems who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
