A loan of $1,200 helped to buy two calves for grazing and to pay the rent on 14,000 square meters of land.

Andrés De Jesús's story

Andrés is sixty-five years old and is married. He is a hard-working and fighting individual, and has been making a living in agriculture for the past thirty-two years. It was his father who taught him, since they lived on a ranch where he worked day and night. He attends church and has been a leader of the church for twenty-five years. He buys all his agricultural inputs in a small town that is twenty minutes away by bicycle. The loan he is requesting is to buy two calves for grazing and to pay the rent on 14,000 square meters of land that he will cultivate in the summer season with an irrigation system. With this investment, he will know he has land to cultivate and will be able to buy more livestock that will help him generate a higher income for his family. This will allow him to provide better living conditions for his granddaughters, and to get out of the economic constraints in which they have found themselves.
