Cuenca, Ecuador / Retail

A loan of $775 helped to buy blankets to sell.

María Dolores's story

María has been a member of the "El Control" communal bank for a year. She likes the communal bank very much because they are a close-knit group. She lives in the community of Punta Corral, which is part of the Turi parish in Cuenca, a place known as the city's viewpoint, as from there one can admire a great part of the city of Cuenca. Its people raise animals, farm, and engage in commercial activities.

María is 32 years old, married and has two children ages 15 and 4. Her eldest child is going to school and her second child is in daycare. Her husband works in the construction field as a bricklayer. They own the house where they live.

María spends her time at home looking after her children, but to help her husband with the household expenses she raises chickens and guinea pigs. She also grows vegetables on her parcel of land, which she then sells at a market in the city.

She is going to use her loan to purchase blankets, so that she can sell this merchandise and begin this new business.

Her goal is to increase sales of this product and eventually have a store.
