Alcira Soledad's story

Alcira is part of El Control Communal Bank. She lives in the community of Punta Corral, in the parish of Turi in Cuenca. It's known as the viewpoint of the city because a large part of Cuenca can be admired from there. The people there make a living raising animals, farming, and in commerce.

Alcira, 44, is married and from her marriage has two children, ages 26 and 24, who are married and live on their own. Her husband migrated in search of a better job to get his whole family ahead. The house in which she lives is her own.

Alcira works at home doing the housework. To contribute to the household finances she raises pigs, guinea pigs, and chickens, which she sells in her community. She also grows food on her plot of land for home consumption.

She's going to use her new loan to buy pigs and animal feed.

Her goal is to improve her house.
