Maria Marina's story

Maria is 62 years old and married. She lives with her son and her husband in the municipality of San Francisco de Yojoa. Maria has been making homemade bread for eight years. She makes sweet breads, quesadillas, pineapple turnovers, pizza, bread pudding, as well as "topogigios" (homemade ice cream) made with milk and coconut, as well as food.

She sells as a street vendor in her community. She is very well-known and already has a good clientele. She has kept her business going by investing several loans. Currently she is applying for her sixth loan, and it is for 22,000 lempiras. She is going to use it to buy ingredients such as flour, sugar, eggs, milk, lard, soda, bags and other materials that she uses to make bread.

She buys large quantities to maintain in inventory. Her goal is to supply her business and improve her output, so that she can provide her son with an education and on a personal level, feel useful by contributing income to the household.
