A loan of $3,600 helped a member to stock merchandise for the winter season.

Grupo Nuevo Almaguer Group's story

The communal bank Nuevo Almaguer is in its fourth loan cycle. The group meets in the eastern section of the city of Monterrey. The members pursue different activities: selling food, natural products, tamales, and used clothing in the nearby markets. Eluteria, 61, is one of the members and is married with two married children. Eluteria sells tamales, a traditional Mexican dish, on weekends with her neighbors. She also sells personal natural products such as juices with vitamins, natural creams, and malts. She started selling tamales 10 years ago when her husband became ill and she had to work on his behalf.

With this loan, Eluteria wants to buy enough supplies to make tamales and be ready for the Christmas season, the best part of the year for selling this Mexican dish. She dreams of having her own place to sell tamales since the stall would help her increase sales and better serve her customers.
