A loan of $775 helped to buy bags of organic fertilizer and hire day laborers.

Nilda's story

Nilda, 38, lives with her husband Teodoro, 46. They both work hard to give the best to their two daughters. They live together in a house made of hard-wearing materials, that they built with a lot of effort. More than 20 years ago, Nilda saw farming as the only way to maintain her household and move forward. As always, the support of her husband has been essential. Their land is very fertile. It has produced a variety of crops, but mostly cacao, a product that has been in high demand in recent years. Sadly, their crops have been stolen on more than one occasion, by unscrupulous people who remove their plantings. Now it is cacao season, and she has to carry out needed maintenance on the crops, such as weeding, fertilizing, reenforcing the boundaries of their land to prevent strangers from entering. Her 18th loan will be for 2,000 soles. With this money, she will buy bags of organic fertilizer and hire day laborers, so that they can build a fence on their property.
