A loan of $1,475 helped to stock her business by buying a batch of pigs.

Cecilia's story

Cecilia is 58 years old. She is a single mother with three adult children, ages 46, 42, and 38. Cecilia is originally from the community of Malpaisillo, a place that is located in the northern part of the country. Her business is butchering pigs and selling milk products. She has worked in this business for 22 years. Her business consists of buying live pigs, butchering them, and offering the meat to people who prepare food using the meat. Her business is located in her home. She began it in order to have a source of employment and to help with the household expenses. She needs the financing to buy a batch of pigs and be stocked to respond to her customers. She is grateful for the help that the Kiva investors offer to people of scarce resources and poor countries such as Nicaragua, to have a source of dignified work.
