A loan of $950 helped a member to buy pigs to raise and to build piggery.

Saran's Group's story

A villager residing in Pursat province’s Kror Kor district of Cambodia, Saran is 28 years of age and married. She has four lovely dependent kids, all of whom are school-aged children. To earn a decent life for her family, Saran works as a rice farmer on one and a half hectare of farmland while her husband complements the income by working as a construction worker. Together, they earn approximately 23,500KHR per day. Saran is a fourth-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). Thanks to the previous loans, Saran was able to take care of the food need for her family. Now in hope of running a new business, Saran is leading a group of three members to take out a loan in the amount of 3,800,000KHR in total. As a group leader, Saran will use her loan portion as working capital so that she has enough money needed to run her new business, which is a pig-raising business. She will use some portion of her loan to purchase pigs to raise and a portion to build a proper piggery in order to shelter them from the elements. Saran strongly hopes that her pig-raising business runs smoothly and provides greater income so that she can better support her beloved family.
