A loan of $300 helped a member to build a decent latrine.

Sophorn's Group's story

A 40-year-old mother of three schoolchildren, Sophorn strives for a living through rice farming. With 15 years of experience in this business, she is able to earn about 24,000 KHR per day.

Five loans ago (which she completely paid back), Sophorn was in the first-cycle loan with VisionFund, Kiva's partner. She has wisely used her past loans to expand her business gradually and upgrade her living conditions.

Since hygienic practice is one of the crucial factors for maintaining the family's harmony, she formed a group of six to apply for a loan. Specifically, her loan is the latrine loan. The requested loan amount for this entire group is 200,000 KHR each. As the leader, Sophorn is going to use her loan in order to build a decent latrine for her family, especially her children, including a latrine slab, cement, sand, etc. She highly hopes that she will have a proper latrine in her household, so all of her children can have good health practices and prevent relevant diseases.

In this group: Sophorn, Ruon, Phy, Savun, Hout, Chantho
