A desire to live with new goals and self improvement is what this young, tenacious, determined woman has. She has never let herself be overcome by the adversity she has encountered in life, whether that be poverty or social violence. She lives with her close-knit family group, which is her greatest treasure and reason to be exemplary.

Currently, she makes artificial flowers by hand in different kinds of paper, plastic or other recycled material. She learned this art from her parents when she was young and has been able to earn a living little by little every day, serving as an example for her entire family, who see the effort she makes and who collaborate with her in the business.

She wants to sell more flowers but does not have the capital to buy enough raw materials. Therefore she has requested a loan through INTEGRAL to buy different papers, glitter, wire, glue and plastic. She is confident this support will help her reach her goals soon.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of a pilot project Apoyo Integral is launching in conjunction with several local NGOs to support at-risk youth and their families with funding from Kiva. This loan product is tailored to young people who find themselves in a vulnerable situation due to the lack of access to eduation and a decent job. Moreover they are in high-risk situations because they are located in areas affected by extreme violence. Loans are combined with vocational, technical, and financial training to help these young people develop business ideas that will help them generate income, reintegrate into society, and support their dreams of being productive and contributing members of society.

Due to potential safety risks facing these youth, some of the loans are being disbursed to their parents in order to protect their identities. For the same reason, the faces of some Apoyo Integral borrowers may be blurred in photos. Apoyo Integral appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to provide much-needed support to at-risk Salvadoran youth.
