Everyone in the world wants to live with dignity and joy. This is how this man strives so that his family, his wife and son, can have the best amidst so much poverty and need. This is why he seeks every morning to find the way to go out to work keeping in mind that his table must never lack daily bread.

He’s very hardworking, honest, sincere and very enterprising because he’s the man of the house and feels the weight of setting an example for his son. He currently works manufacturing and selling artisanal shoes, that is, those made by himself. He has a small sales stand located in a very busy part of the country which is where he heads to every morning to sell and provide sustenance for his home.

Like any good merchant, though, he’s identified the moment to increase sales a bit and this is why he’s approached Integral to request a loan to buy leather, shoe glue and work tools. He’s sure that his need will be heard and good-hearted people will see that his dream becomes reality.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of a pilot project Apoyo Integral is launching in conjunction with several local NGOs to support at-risk youth and their families with funding from Kiva. This loan product is tailored to young people who find themselves in a vulnerable situation due to the lack of access to eduation and a decent job. Moreover they are in high-risk situations because they are located in areas affected by extreme violence. Loans are combined with vocational, technical, and financial training to help these young people develop business ideas that will help them generate income, reintegrate into society, and support their dreams of being productive and contributing members of society.

Due to potential safety risks facing these youth, some of the loans are being disbursed to their parents in order to protect their identities. For the same reason, the faces of some Apoyo Integral borrowers may be blurred in photos. Apoyo Integral appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to provide much-needed support to at-risk Salvadoran youth.
