A loan of $775 helped to buy beeswax, wood crates, cacao plant seedlings and organic manure.

Maria's story

María, 52, is very self-sacrificing and hardworking. She supports her family. Her parents who are still with her are blessed to have such a devoted daughter. She lives in a house built with substantial materials that she managed to build with her siblings for the family’s wellbeing.

She’s worked for the last five years as a beekeeper and cocoa bean grower; she's found the key to success. She took advantage of some free space in her parcels of land and started out with just one hive but with the success she had as of today she has five. She likes her work very much because she feels like she understands the bees although she has been stung by them but that doesn’t bother her since she states that it’s good for your health.

The best way to do this work and to work in harmony with the bees is to always be in a good mood and happy because they can feel that human instinct and it’s possible to do this activity just like any other. Among her priorities is to expand production alongside her agricultural activities. Therefore, she plans to buy bee hives as well as cacao plant seedlings to continue accumulating capital to reach her objective of acquiring more land for cocoa bean production.

This is her 5th MFP loan and it gives her confidence in the work she does. She thanks her communal bank members for the welcome they gave her when she became a member of the group. She will use the 2,000 soles to buy a bee hive, wood boxes to raise bees as well as cacao plant seedlings and organic manure for optimum production.
