A loan of $400 helped to buy mobile phones and accessories.

Marciana's story

Marciana, 39, is married to Germán and is the mother of two children who are adults and carry out professional activities thanks to the support they received. They all live in a wood house built on a piece of land they bought recently. She started out as a cocoa bean farmer and over the years saved up working capital she used to start a mobile phone business.

Renting a commercial space and with support from her son who trained as a mobile phone technician they are able to move the business forward turning it into a good source of household support. In addition, they also take advantage of their commercial space to sell sandals and other things. In this way she feels happy to work as a mother-son team while the father manages the agricultural and animal husbandry activities.

They notices a bit of a drop in sales lately because people prefer to buy mobile phones with additional features so they need to stock the store in such a way to meet this demand.

Among her future plans is to build her house with substantial materials where she plans to continue with her business. This is her 16th loan and she feels committed to making her payments. She comments that she likes working in her communal bank because she feels better informed and more motivated each time. She will use the 1,000 soles to add to her capital to buy the mobile phone equipment that’s most in demand by the public as well as accessories and spare parts for them.
