Eduarda's story

Eduarda is a 62-year-old woman who lives in the city of Chincha. She has three grown-up children whom she loves and who are her main reason for living. Sadly Eduarda lost her dear husband, and since then has been the main pillar of her family. Eduarda was not able to undertake further education as she had to work to help her parents from a young age, but she would have liked to study nursing. In her free time she likes to make straw hats and she sometimes cooks a delicious lamb stew to share with her family.

On her own initiative, with much determination and dedication, Eduarda started a small business selling drinks several years ago. At the weekend she also sells food, such as her delicious chicken soup and chanfainita [a kind of beef stew]. She starts work early every morning and works for around 10 hours. She thinks she is doing well thanks to her delicious seasoning and the experience she has of running her business.

Eduarda is very grateful to the Kiva lenders, because the help she receives will enable her to buy merchandise such as sodas, soft drinks and beer, among other items, as well as ingredients to prepare her delicious soups and stews. In this way Eduarda hopes to increase her sales and her income, which will help her to grow her business. In the not too distant future she would like to finish the building work at the back of her home.
