A loan of $700 helped a member to buy more hair-styling products for her salon.

Edina's Group's story

Edina's group is made up of six hard-working women. Edina is 19 years old and lives in the town of Ggaba, where she runs a salon where she styles and cuts hair. To help expand her business, she has requested a loan for 300,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. She will use the loan to buy more hair-styling products. This will help her generate greater profits and take care of herself and her grandmother. Her goal for the future is to start a catering business. Edina is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and is a forum for life-skills training.
