A loan of $525 helped a member to buy more soft drinks like sodas for resale.

Olivia's Group's story

Olivia's group is comprised of 3 hard working women. Olivia is 22 years old and lives in the town of Rukoki in the Fortportal region of Uganda. For the past 3 years, Olivia has been working hard to manage her small business, which sells soft drinks like soda and passion fruit juice. To help expand her business, Olivia has requested a loan of 400,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda (a portion of the group's total loan amount). The loan will be used to buy more soft drinks like sodas for resale, and will help Olivia to generate greater profits and pay for her medical bills. Olivia hopes that in the future she will be able to build a permanent house for her self. Olivia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
