A loan of $250 helped to purchase additional stock of fish.

Bendera's story

Bendera is a fishmonger living in Mariakani, Kenya. She is married and has three children. Fish is among the staple foods of the residents living around Bendera. She has been operating the business herself for eight years. Bendera started from her spouse’s contribution, with a limited stock of fish and has seen her capital grow with time. The business has been running in total for ten years and is a source of livelihood for their family of five.

Bendera joined Milango this year and is applying for a loan of 21,050 Kenya shillings to purchase additional stock of fish. Her ambition is to be the largest supplier of fish to the areas around Mariakani town.

The extra income will also form part of Bendera’s future savings. The challenge currently is high cost of transport since Bendera has to go and look for fish stock. She desires to set up a retail shop in the future and also to build a rental house.
