A loan of $650 helped to buy iron, solder, paint and other supplies.

Narcisa Marisol's story

The communal bank "Los Tres Ángeles" ["The Three Angels"] meets every fifteen days in the canton of Montecristi, known for its rich pre-colonial culture and its handicrafts, which are well-known on the national and international levels. This is the place where the famous "Panama" hats are made from toquilla fiber.

This is the home of Narcisa, who is 45 years old and has a common-law husband with whom she has three children, aged 23, 13 and 11. The children are studying at the university, secondary school and primary school. All of her children still live with her. Her husband is a metalsmith.

Narcisa is taking out the loan to help her husband, who has a metal shop where he carries out many types of work such as doors, windows, structures, etc. He does this work both inside and outside his workshop. He works from Monday through Saturday, with the help of an operator whom he pays a monthly salary. He has run his workshop for more than 20 years, and he has never lacked for work.

This loan will be used to buy iron, soldering materials, and paint, among other supplies that are necessary for his work. Narcisa has been in the communal bank for three loan cycles, and she likes it because in this way she can help her husband.

Her dream is to see her children finish their studies.
