A loan of $750 helped to buy soft-drinks, water, bread and other foodstuffs.

Sonia Narcisa's story

The “Los Tres Ángeles” (The Three Angels) communal bank meets every two weeks in Montecristi Canton known for its rich pre-colonial culture and for its crafts that are renown both nationally and internationally; it’s where the famous straw hats come from.

Sonia, 46, lives here. She’s married and has a five-year-old son who attends a local school. Her husband’s a laborer in the city of Manta.

She is a very good housewife who in order to help with household expenses works making and selling fast-food and snacks. She has a small food cart where she sells hamburgers, hot-dogs, cake, soft-drinks and water, among others. She works every day in the afternoon. She’s been in business more than five years and she started it with the very first loan she got from the communal bank.

She will use this loan to buy soft-drinks, water, bread and other foodstuffs to make her food. She’s a founding member of the communal bank and likes it because she started her business with her first loan. Her dream is to continue moving forward and to give the best to her son.
