The 'banc villageois' that houses this group was created on December 28, 2009. It comprises 48 members who live in the same town. These members maintain good relationships and mutually support one another.

Aminata, 34 years old, is standing at the right with her hand raised in the photo. She is a married mother of five children (2 boys and 3 girls). With this loan, she intends to bolster her shop. She is purchasing 10 bags of powdered milk and 2 bags of powdered sugar that she is going to sell retail. She is also purchasing a barrel of millet for 20,000 francs to make 'thiacri' which she is going to sell.

With the profits, she helps to care for the children and improve day-to-day family life. The profits will also enable her to pay the loan interest and to grow her savings.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
