A loan of $350 helped to buy cosmetics.

Marlene De Jesús's story

Marlene is taking out her first loan in the “Futuro para un Bienestar” (Future for Wellbeing) communal bank. She was invited to join by a neighbor who has been a group member for some time. She lives in the city of Cuenca’s Racar sector, a place where the beauty of nature can be enjoyed. Its residents are very hardworking and for the most part work manufacturing bricks and roof tiles. They also work in agriculture and raise animals. Some have jobs in the city. They still preserve the culture and traditions of their peoples. Marlene is 32-years-old and the single mother of a 10-year-old son who is attending a local elementary school. She does not own a house so lives with her mother sharing household expenses. She works in a factory where jeans are manufactured; she learned this activity by doing it. She works from Monday through Friday from 8am until 5pm. She works weekends selling various brands of cosmetics. She will use her loan to buy cosmetics to increase the variety of her merchandise. Her goal is to own a house.
