A loan of $500 helped a member to buy fertilizer and seeds for her farm..

Thy's Group's story

Thy, 46, is a married mother of seven children. Now, only two children are under her responsibility; one of them is still in school and another one is helping the family's business. Her sources of income are from growing rice and selling Khmer noodles. Her husband also has a job playing traditional music during special events such as weddings and religious ceremonies.

Having been involved in this business for 21 years, she is able to earn about 22,000 KHR per day. Thy, a second-time borrower, has formed a group of two with a first-time borrower in order to apply for a new loan. Her past loan, which she has paid back fully, has helped her to better support both of her businesses on, especially by allowing her to purchase ingredients for her noodle business. Her portion of the new loan will be used to purchase fertilizer and seed for her farm. She hopes that this will give her a better crop yield and allow her to lift her family living conditions above their previous state.
